ATIX AT THE 20TH LINUX DAYS IN CHEMNITZ

This year the Chemnitz Linux Days (CLT) celebrated its 20th birthday. The ATIX crew couldn’t miss this and was represented both as an exhibitor and with three lectures. Despite the flu epidemic, seven team members made their way to Chemnitz (more or less) fit.

In our travel diary we tell you everything we experienced:

Friday, March 9, 2018

In the early afternoon, the motley crew including Mark (CEO), Ingrid, Stefan and Tobias (marketing team) as well as our speakers Jonas, Bernhard (IT consultants) and Matthias (software developer) packed all our trade fair equipment into the ATIX truck and set off for Saxony. Less than four hours later, we had not only reached our destination, but had already set up our stand in the central lecture hall building of Chemnitz University of Technology. This allowed us to devote ourselves to our other great passion besides Linux and Open Source: Food. We rounded off our first evening in Chemnitz with a juicy steak in a relaxed atmosphere.

Before we set off for the CLT on Saturday, we met for breakfast – albeit not completely full due to one or two technical problems with the cell phone alarm clock. Once our board member had taken on the role of alarm clock, we were able to set off together for the first day of the trade fair. Shortly after arriving at our stand, we greeted the first visitors with interesting information about us and our lifecycle management tool orcharhino. In addition, a wide range of other highlights awaited them, such as our homemade popcorn (we were the ones with the big cups 😉 ) and a live demo of orcharhino. The flappy orcharhino game we developed was particularly well received – numerous gamers tried to beat the high score and get hold of one of our orcharhino T-shirts.

At 10:00 a.m. Jonas gave his Lego for DevOps lecture to a “sold-out house”: the lecture hall was so full that some of the listeners were sitting on the stairs and on the floor. Many of you then visited us at our stand and wanted to know more about containers. Shortly before the end of the first day there was another rush to our trade fair stand: of course we had packed our original Bavarian orcharhino beer and shared it generously with all visitors.

So we were busy all day and left Chemnitz University of Technology in the evening hungry. But thanks to the appetizer platter and pizza, this was quickly satisfied.

The only thing that didn’t really work was the after-work beer. Back at the hotel, parts of the ATIX crew went looking for one. But they were unsuccessful in their search, even though they even crashed a wedding party…

Our second and last day in Chemnitz began like the first with a breakfast – this time even together. Since the starting signal for the event was given a little later today, the visitors only trickled in gradually. Since our stand was at the entrance, they were provided with popcorn to eat right before their tour. During the course of the day we expanded our catering activities (of course completely free of charge and without competition to the official CLT catering 😉 ) so that in the end almost every stand was supplied with our ATIX popcorn (and cups).

Towards the afternoon things got exciting again: At 4:00 p.m. our colleague Bernhard gave his talk “Foreman meets Ansible”. Although it was an advanced time, his lecture was still very well received and aroused inquiries from many interested listeners. Last but not least, at 5:00 p.m. our colleague Matthias informed his audience about pulp_deb repository management for Debian/Ubuntu. His presentation also led to a lively exchange with the participants and aroused interest in more information about the topic and ATIX AG.

After Matthias returned to our stand, we slowly said goodbye to our stand and the 20th CLT. From 5:30 p.m. it was time for us to clean up, dismantle the stand, pack up and hit the road. So we drove back to Munich in the ATIX truck and the ATIX Mini, where we arrived at around 10 p.m., completely exhausted but satisfied with the past few days.

Our conclusion:

We had a lot of fun, met great people, had lots of fun experiences and are looking forward to the Chemnitz Linux Days 2019!
