Hangar July Release 2025: A Milestone for Multi-Tenancy and Cluster Administration

The July 2025 release of Hangar is an important step towards enterprise-readiness and simplified administration. The update brings significant improvements in the areas of multi-tenancy, user management, and node pool management. Here’s an overview of the key changes:

The Path to Multi-Tenancy

This update introduces groundbreaking features that enable multi-tenancy, offering businesses better control over user and resource management. With this release, Hangar’s user management reaches a new level:

  • User-Oriented Cluster Administration: Each cluster can now be managed by dedicated administrators and users, greatly facilitating the division of labor in larger teams.
  • Role-Based Access Management: With the introduction of the roles “SuperAdmin,” “ClusterAdmin,” and “ClusterUser,” we enable fine-grained control over permissions at the cluster level.
  • Improved UI Concepts: The user interface has been optimized for user management, now offering a more intuitive navigation and management of user rights.

Reimagined Node Pool Management

In this release, we’ve focused on enhancing the node pool management to support higher performance and greater flexibility:

  • Cache Mechanism via Informer: By implementing an intelligent caching system, the Kubernetes API is offloaded, and the system’s response time is significantly improved.
  • Sizable Nodes: More flexible configuration of node resources for optimal workload distribution and resource usage.
  • Clear Node Management: The new interface provides a clear visualization of all physical and virtual nodes, including status information and warnings for resource bottlenecks.

Infrastructure Overview: The Command Center for Administrators

The new feature “Infrastructure Overview” provides administrators with a central view of the entire infrastructure cluster, allowing them to quickly identify and resolve issues:

  • Control Plane Status Display: Immediate detection of issues in the core Kubernetes components.
  • Node Overview: Detailed information on all nodes, including load and status.
  • Resource Alerts: Automatic notifications for critical conditions like pending nodes due to resource shortages.
  • Cluster Management: Direct control options for administrators from a central location.

Intuitive User Management

To streamline the management process, we’ve integrated user management directly into Hangar’s interface, providing administrators with greater flexibility:

  • User Assignment During Cluster Creation: Users with appropriate roles can be assigned when creating a cluster.
  • Flexible User and Role Management: In the cluster management, administrators can add, remove, or adjust user roles at any time.
  • Clear Visualization: A clear visualization shows at a glance which users have which permissions to access a cluster.

Performance & Stability

Along with new features, this release brings several key performance enhancements and bug fixes to improve platform reliability:

  • Optimized Certificate Management: Improved handling of TLS certificates for greater security and reliability.
  • Expanded Test Coverage: More extensive automated tests ensure a more stable platform and faster bug detection.
  • Various Bug Fixes: Numerous issues have been resolved to ensure a smooth user experience.

Conclusion

The July 2025 release marks an important milestone in Hangar’s evolution, offering the next phase of features that empower enterprises with more powerful management tools. With the introduction of the first stage of multi-tenancy and improved node pool management, we now offer an even more powerful platform for businesses of all sizes. The intuitive user management and comprehensive infrastructure overview make administration more efficient and transparent than ever before. We invite all users to test the new release and look forward to your feedback, which will help us continue developing Hangar and tailor it to your needs.
