ATIX at the Chemnitz Linux Days 2017 – A story from the perspective of our learners

As it turned out on the weekend of March 11-12, 2017, the “learner project” was a complete success! For the first time, our trainees and dual students took full responsibility for planning ATIX’s trade fair presence at the Chemnitz Linux Days and actually overtook the competition with their motto “Overtaken by Open Source”.

The preparations

Planning the trade fair was a little bumpy at first. What do we have to consider when organizing, who takes on which tasks and the most important point: how do we want to present ourselves at the trade fair? But after several discussions and with the help of the team and management, the concept quickly took shape. The motto “Overtaken by Open Source” should now not only be on our ATIX minis but also on our stand. So we designed a rocket on our pop-up stand that overtakes with open source. “Simplify your Datacenter” stands for our core topic, automation with orcharhino .

The finishing touches

To give visitors a better insight into our world of automation, we were also armed with VR goggles. This gave visitors the opportunity to learn more about our selected technologies using their own bodies. Of course, there was also a highlight – the orcharhino game! Our automation tool was explained in more detail with a self-programmed game in which our Rhino has to avoid obstacles.

The trade fair

After we were satisfied with our organization, we set off for Chemnitz on Friday with the ATIX-Mini! The stand set-up also went smoothly in the evening.

On Saturday we finally got started. The trade fair was already crowded early on and we came into contact with many interesting people, especially because of our orcharhino game. In conversations about orcharhino, “Simplify your Datacenter” and other open source topics, we made many new contacts, which we are particularly pleased about.

CLT Stand 2

We also had the opportunity to attend the Chemnitzer Linux Tage presentations and learn more about exciting topics such as security with open source, current developments in the open source world and much more.

There was also a lot going on on Sunday and the competition for our orcharhino game continued 😉 Unfortunately, nobody managed to beat our Duali’s high score of 42 points. But everyone was happy to receive popcorn as a consolation prize!

What will we take away from the trade fair?

We apprentices now know that a trade fair appearance involves a lot of work. But the work was worth it, because the feedback was great! We also had a lot of fun, so we are already looking forward to more exciting projects.
