Hangar May Release – More Control, More Flexibility, More Community

Managing Kubernetes environments often means walking a fine line between centralized control and decentralized freedom. Hangar tackles this challenge by offering maximum flexibility for users—while still enabling efficient governance.

With its innovative “headless Kubernetes” approach, Hangar allows control planes to run directly within Kubernetes. This drastically reduces the usual complexity of roles and permissions, simplifies integrations, and conserves resources by orchestrating multiple control planes within a single external cluster. At the same time, it leaves room for individual configurations—like flexible worker node pools.

The May release, version “2025_05,” takes this concept even further and marks another milestone in Kubernetes environment management. This update brings powerful improvements to node pool management and makes our online playground even more intuitive and interactive.

Here’s a quick overview of all the new features:

Node Pool Management: Faster, More Flexible, More Intuitive

We’ve given our playground a major update—perfect for safe testing or sharing setups with colleagues.

New Full-Functionality Demo Mode

One of the highlights: a new demo mode with read-only access. It lets administrators safely present the Hangar interface or onboard new users without the risk of unwanted changes. Of course, this mode includes full access to the latest features—like our improved node management.

Online Playground: Better Testing, Better Experience

To make managing clusters even easier, this release introduces several powerful enhancements:

Multiple Virtual Nodes per Cluster

You can now create multiple virtual worker nodes with just a few clicks—right when you set up a managed cluster. But that’s not all: admins remain flexible after deployment, too. New nodes can be added at any time using the new “Create Node” button directly in the UI.

Easier Node Removal

Removing individual worker nodes is now just as simple. You can delete them via the user interface, with a built-in confirmation prompt to prevent mistakes. Behind the scenes, automatic cleanup in the infrastructure cluster ensures everything stays tidy and high-performing—no manual follow-up needed.

Stronger community ties: Got Feedback? We’re All Ears.

Real development thrives on collaboration. That’s why we’ve added a community feedback button in the interface. Users can now easily share feedback, ideas, or report bugs—right from within Hangar. The button takes you straight to the ATIX Hangar Community, our platform for discussion, support, and co-creation.

Airgapped Installation: Fully Offline. Fully Secure.

Especially for organizations in highly regulated or security-critical environments, the ability to run software without internet access is essential. With the May update, that’s now possible.

Thanks to our airgapped installation mode, Hangar can be deployed and run entirely offline. Just set a simple flag in the vvalues.yaml file of the Helm chart, and the setup is fully isolated from the network.

Under the Hood: Improvements & Bug Fixes

As always, we’ve made improvements behind the scenes:

  • Optimized installation process
  • Numerous bug fixes and further increased system stability

Conclusion

With the May release, managing your Kubernetes clusters is easier, more flexible, and more community-driven than ever. Node pool management now enables you to run compute workloads directly in your managed cluster—and the improved onboarding and community feedback options make working with Hangar more seamless.
