The orcharhino Summit from the participant’s perspective
My highlights of the orcharhino Summit were the two customer presentations by Frank (Benteler) and Martin Zimmermann (Fujitsu), which gave exciting, but above all practical, insights into the use of orcharhino. First of all, there was a presentation by Jan Bundesmann (consultant at ATIX AG) on possible use cases.
Frank Recker described his practical experience with orcharhino in interaction with Microsoft Windows hosts. He and his team use orcharhino to manage hosts in different locations, for which they use smart proxies, among other things. As an example, he presented the customization of templates and the deployment of multiple Windows hosts. With the help of orcharhino and Ansible Roles, numerous Windows VMs, e.g. AD domain controllers, file servers, or admin workstations, were newly rolled out.
Martin Zimmermann presented his practical experience with configuration management with Puppet and automatic host provisioning with orcharhino. The focus of the lecture was on the central administration of IT with the help of orcharhino. He and his team use multiple staging levels to guide configuration changes in Puppet through development, testing, and production. Puppet modules are checked into git and are automatically deployed to Puppet Master after a code review.
Furthermore, Bernhard Suttner (Head of Software Development at ATIX AG) presented the development model and particularly highlighted the connection to the developer and user community. The open source basis of orcharhino creates numerous advantages such as having a say in new features.
Thomas Merz (CEO of ATIX AG) spoke about the support offers from ATIX AG. Various support options including other support offers were presented.
Finally, Jonas Trüstedt (Senior Consultant at ATIX AG) conducted a short orcharhino demo and presented best practices in dealing with content in orcharhino.
There were a total of 70 participants. I can only agree with the positive conclusion given by the participants and look forward to further events in this style.
