Nagios

Nagios has made a name for itself in particular in the Linux environment. It consists of basic frameworks, with monitoring modules that can be latched as plugins. These are able monitor devices and protocols in a network , such as SMTP, POP3 , HTTP, or MNTP. Nagios can take over the monitoring of all IT infrastructure groups (eg, applications, services , operating systems, network protocols, data management and network modules).

Nagios generates an alarm certain threshholds are exceeded and sends a notification to the administrator. The active intervention (active monitoring ) for Remedy is also possible. Nagios is an open source tool, it is used by many providers as the basis for developing their own monitoring solutions (eg NETWAYS , OP5 or SM- Box).

Through regular updates and plugins the functionality of this monitoring tools is steadily expanded (even the creation of custom plugins is possible). In addition, several technologies are used in parallel : ICMP (ping) , SNMP, WMI , CIM/WBEM, JMX, Network Services, Agents, database queries.
